As I’m sure you can guess, YouTube decided not to hire me. While it does make the moving away decision much easier (and everyone that wants us to stay here much happier), I still think that YouTube made a mistake on me.

I found out Monday April 26th, and the following morning I wrote out a 1200+ word post explaining why I thought I was a good fit (yeah, I definitely didn’t post that). While that might have made me feel a bit better, I’m sure that I’m the only person it would have helped.

Having had quite a bit of time to think about it, I still think that I would have fit well. I have been a web developer for almost a decade (their main interface is a website), I know programming in Adobe Flash really well (hello?), and I’m all about Python (the language their backend is written in). My only thought is that the interview process doesn’t do me justice.

Oh well, maybe I’m meant to stay in Lansing…

Kristie and I were talking about this recently, and we are both in agreement. Blogs, at least in our circle of friends, are going the way of the dinosaurs. Now, I’m not talking about the blog format in general. There are plenty of sites using the blog format that are headed in the opposite direction. I’m talking specifically about personal blogs.

I’m just as guilty as anyone; my last post was almost 3 months ago and it was for a class.

The culprit: micro-blogging. Twitter and Facebook updates are the new blog. It makes sense though. Who wants to spend their time writing out posts when they can just as easily (and more often more easily) make a tiny update.

Just a thought…

My sister wrote a great post on Sunday that helps to begin the explanation of why I am the way I am (and she is the way she is). We both have the tendency of communicating our negative thoughts and feelings. It’s not that we don’t have positive thoughts or feelings. It’s actually the opposite; we have mostly positive thoughts/feelings. The issue is that our ingrained way of dealing with those negative thoughts/feelings is by verbally expressing them.

So to anyone that thinks of my sister and/or I as negative people, we’re sorry that it seems that way.

So, I’m putting a little more effort into this posting thing. Mostly because I feel stupid having a blog that I never post to, and partly because I just feel like it.

It was a few weeks ago, but I had a seriously good time in Chicago with sister. I spent way too much on food, but it was all soooo good. It was really great to spend some time with just me and my sister. We actually got to have some good conversation that went below surface level. Nothing really crazy happened while I was there (except I did miss my train back home and had to catch a later one, but there weren’t any incidents with that). We did find a really cool bookstore that had like more bookshelf space than it had walking space (and floor to ceiling books, I didn’t know it was possible till I saw it).

Classes are going well as usual. I’m mostly enjoying them, although they are still in the beginning stages so it’s hard to tell how I’ll feel by the end.

Well, I think that’s it.

It’s time for a good list (feel free to do your own, it feels good), so here are some things I’m looking forward to (and other sentences ending in prepositions):

The new building being completed — because I’ve been spending a lot of time there and it’s gonna be sweet

The new speakers coming in for the new auditorium — because I’ve done sound for too long with not so good speakers in a room with horrible accoustics

My kitchen being finished — because it’s been in process since December, and currently my stove is in the living room

Going to NC in July — because Kristie’s parents are fantastic, and I need to relax

Hmmmm…seems like I had more when I was thinking about this post. Maybe I’ll add some later. Probably not, though.

How about something cheery…

I bought my dog a harness and a toy sled today. I took him to the park while he pulled the sled with a cinder block on it. Good times…

I had to break into my house on New Year’s Eve. Kristie and I went to get a movie and she didn’t bring her keys. We got back and realized that since I gave my house key to my parents while we were at ignite, it was still inside on the coffee table. Luckily I’ve gained plenty of weight since we got married which allowed me to bash my back door in. It did some decent damage to the frame, nothing I couldn’t fix without too much work. Unfortunately it broke the screws out of the door itself, rendering the door handle permanently unusable. (I’ll post some pictures of the damage later)

Classes start again on Monday. This semester should be a piece of cake compared to last semester.

Last Semester

This Semster

Classes:

5

4

Academic Classes:

5

3

Credits:

14

12

Blow-off Classes:

(yeah right)

Indoor Soccer!

So I’m going to try and do things differently this semester (like actually get all 4.0′s). I’m going to try and spend more time with my smokin’ hot, undeniably beautiful, wife. I’m going to attempt to spend more time with friends (maybe some more food/hangout nights at the Price’s). I’m sure there’s more that I’m not thinking of right now, but we’ll see…

I don’t really talk about politics. I don’t really know anything about anyone who is trying to be president/governor/senator. I know that many people would argue me to death with what I’m about to say, but I don’t see any point in voting or putting in any effort into the political system.

All those people can win you over with their speeches and debates, but I bet if you tallied up all the unkept promises for every politician that made it into their office, it would be a nice big list. We’re capitalists, it all comes down to the almighty dollar. Most people are going to listen to those that are paying them, it’s how most jobs work. So, if you have enough money, you get to make the rules. Sure, I can vote Mr(s) so and so into office, but how likely is it that I know about this person because some company paid top dollar to their campaign?

It sounds pessimistic, yes. What can anyone do about our state of affairs without dedicating their whole life to it? (and if they do dedicate their life, they better be putting food on the table still….)

Useless, waste of time.

I’m officially half-way into my break between semesters. This next semester won’t be quite so difficult compared to the last one. I have 3 academic classes as opposed to the 5 I had before.

I feel like I’m starting to become myself again. Even though that means some procrastination, waking up late, and doing one thing when I should be doing another.

Kristie and I are leaving early for Ignite since we are helping with it. I sure hope that I can actually do something. It seems like they might not really need my help.

Anyway, I procrastinated packing some of my stuff, so I have to go so we’re not late.
